The first day of the WTA Parma starts on Monday, with five matches scheduled throughout the day. First ranked in the tournament Maria Scary She’s hoping to find some form of this event as her season has gone poorly in recent months. The Greek star finds herself from the outside looking inward as much WTA Finals involved. However, she is still the favorite to lift the trophy here. The likes of Sloane Stephens and Martina Trevisan She probably has something to say about it though. With that in mind, let’s dive into our one and only set of WTA Parma predictions for day one.
WTA Parma predictions for the first day
Sarah Irani vs. Lauren Davis
Face to face: 3 – 1 Iranian
Sarah Irani She has put in tough arenas to make her way to the cusp of the top 100 at the age of 35. The Italian is always dangerous on clay and will be a real test for anyone she faces this week. She’s experiencing a similarly potent drive and counter here at Lorraine Davis. The American does not excel on clay and has lost three of the previous four meetings between those two. They sure haven’t met since 2015, but they both seem to be playing at relatively similar levels at the moment. Given that, Erani has the advantage because she is a better player for red dirt.
Prediction: Errani in 2
Anna Bogdan vs. Laura Pegosi
Face to face: 1 – 0 Bogdan
This really shouldn’t be much of a competition. Anna Bogdan She spends a professional year on the WTA Tour. The Roman also broke up Laura Pegosi two months ago in Warsaw. The Brazilian has had a great year in her own right and could slip into the top 100 at the end of the year for the first time in her career. However, you’ll need to get results in other tournaments to make that happen because it’s hard to see her avoid getting out of the first round in these tournaments.
Prediction: Bogdan at 2
Sloane Stevens vs. Magdalena Fritsch
Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Stevens
Sloane Stevens He’s clearly the better player of the two here. However, its constant roulette in good, bad and ugly tennis means that Magdalena Fritsch stands for more than just an outside chance in this game. The Polish pug never found a high enough standard to feature on the WTA Tour consistently. She needs deep rounds in smaller tournaments like this to change that narrative and she might be lucky here. Stephens’ asymmetry makes me very hesitant to support her, so I’m giving Frech an edge on this because constant effort is important for something in tennis.
Prediction: Frech in 3
Anna Shmiedlova vs. Rika Jani
face to face:
Rika Jani is in the midst of the best year of her career, taking two ITF titles to her name in 2022. The Hungarian has been in great shape on the mud and could be a dark horse to cause some serious turmoil here in Parma. A decent run inside the year-end top 100 could see her for the first time ever, so the motivation is definitely there. By contrast, Anna Shmiedlova has pulled back a bit after she looked set to return to the top 20 earlier in the year. Schmiedlova undoubtedly has a higher ceiling of the two here. However, Janie brings shape and confidence on the clay to the table and that should be enough to upset him here.
Prediction: Janie at 3
Maria Scarry x Katrina Bindel
Face to face: first meeting
I have Defend Maria Scari for a while Now it was certain that big tournament victories were coming their way soon. However, some of its old issues have crept back into their game and regressed poorly in the second half of the year. The Greek has all the physical tools to dominate the women’s game, but her mental fortitude is once again questionable. She was guilty of panicking, going a lot in the important matches and underperforming on the big stages in the second half of the year. She’s a favorite here and she’s at her best on clay, but she’ll need to work out some of those mental demons if she’s going to put in a serious effort for the birth of the WTA Finals. Bindel is a good player who will push Scary in this match. However, I think Scary finds his way to the end in the end.
Prediction: drunk at 3
