Mumbai, IndiaAnd the November 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — JBCN International School, Oshiwara, encourages the healthy social, emotional, and behavioral development of its learners through planned mental health awareness posts and activities.
The Enrichment Department organized a week-long event that focused on raising awareness about the importance of self-care and caring for others. The focus has been primarily on self-awareness and control for learners in the younger grades; For example, they explore how to notice breathing patterns and express them artistically using “Controlled breathing waves“. The “Emotional color wheel“ And the “inside my head“ were used to teach them how to understand their own emotions and thoughts, while the older students focused on learning the beneficial effects of simple exercises and “Affirmations“.
While anti-bullying topics are a regular feature in the timed Enrichment Section sessions, an internal anti-bullying poster-making competition helped middle school learners meaningfully express their thoughts and feelings about the topic. Learners made posters, and each home explained what their poster focused on. Some groups expressed their ideas through dance and music, and others through drama. The winning house, Super Samurais, worked together to put on a short skit showcasing their thoughts on the long-term effects of bullying. They also gave some advice to their peers on how to confront bullies and work towards building a bond of trust and friendship.
Finally, in conjunction with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, the Enrichment Department held a workshop for the parent community on Positive Parenting: Strengthening Parent-Child Bonds with a focus on understanding the social, mental and physical well-being of children. The workshop helped parents explore the dynamics of parent-child relationships and understand different parenting styles.
IBDP learners have joined in supporting Mental Health Awareness Week by inviting the Ashiana Autism Institute to hold an exhibition/sale of handicrafts made by their students to encourage independence and self-sufficiency for people dealing with autism.
Mr. KV Arjun Rao, Principal, JBCN International School Oshiwara said, “Enabling our future generations to face the many challenges of the future is important, and our role as educators is to support our learners by providing them with the right set of tools that will help them develop a positive self-image and healthier relationships.” Our teachers and counselors have done an amazing job, and Mental Health Awareness Week is one example.”
