Oklahoma tops No. 24 Oklahoma State, and becomes a tournament qualifier

NORMAN, Oklahoma (AP) — Oklahoma wasn’t in its usual position in contention for a Big 12 title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.

But Bedlam soon won over.

Dillon Gabriel passed for two touchdowns and ran to another and No. 24 Oklahoma State was knocked out by Oklahoma State 28-13 Saturday night.

The encounter could be one of the last in the rivalry with both teams as members of the Big 12. She is scheduled to leave Oklahoma for the Southeast Conference in the next few years.

“Who knows how many times we’ll ever play,” said Oklahoma coach Brent Venables. “I haven’t seen next year’s schedules yet, you know, new teams coming in (joining the Big 12). So getting this trophy now means a lot to these guys.”

Gabriel passed for 259 yards and ran for 30 yards. Eric Gray rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown and Drake Stoops scored a career-high six times for 89 yards for the Formers (6-5, 3-5 Big 12), who jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and went on to qualify as a bowler.
