The New York Yankees is accepting applications for a Data Quality Engineer as part of its Division of Baseball Systems. Applicant must have experience working in Quality Assurance/Testing roles, experience writing SQL database queries, and strong baseball knowledge with knowledge of baseball-related data sets and metrics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and solve data-related support cards
  • Work with different data providers to solve issues with their feeds
  • Monitor ETL operations for daily data
  • Identify and solve data construction problems
  • Review and create automated data quality checks as needed
  • Work with database engineers to solve complex SQL and database problems
  • Manage tickets and open data issues and update employees when issues are resolved

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong SQL skills, understanding how to write complex queries and how database structures work; More than 3 years of development experience in SQL (T-SQL preferred)
  • Understand typical baseball data structures, basic and advanced baseball metrics, and knowledge of current baseball research areas
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills – Must be able to break down a complex task and develop an execution strategy with little direction

The position of Associate, Baseball Operations is a rigorous 12-month program designed to prepare entry-level candidates for a career in baseball.

Expected Program Dates: January 2023 – January 2024 (will also consider available candidates after completion of the spring semester)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate players, including identifying and providing trade ratings and free agent acquisition goals
  • Coordination and preparation of advanced scouting materials for the Major League team
  • Assist baseball operations, scouts and quantitative analysis personnel with daily tasks and assigned projects
  • Analyze video and tag data for compilation into internal systems
  • Find comparable contracts to help determine the market value of different players

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience and mastery with Microsoft Office
  • General understanding of baseball
  • Flexible work schedule (includes some nights and weekends)
