excerpt from Hawthorne brothers
Written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
“Speaking as a person with friends, a girlfriend, and a small army of robots, I think you can bring more balance into your life,” Zander said. “Actual hobby? Stop? “
Grayson brow bow. “I’ve filed at least three patents since the school let out last month’s summer, Zhan.”
Xander shrugged his shoulders. “It’s entertainment patents.”
“I should get back to work,” Grayson repeated, using a tone that was so effective in putting everyone in their shoes except his brothers. “And despite what Avery and Jameson think, I don’t need a babysitter.”
“I don’t need a babysitter,” Zander agreed cheerfully, “and I certainly am not writing a book called The Care and Feeding of Your Twenty-Year-Old Brother.”
Grayson’s eyes narrowed to slits.
“I can assure you, it doesn’t have pictures,” Zander said with great esteem.
Before Grayson could summon a proper threat, his phone rang. Assuming they were the numbers he dialed, Grayson picked up the phone, only to discover a text from Nash. He looked at Xander and immediately knew that his younger brother had received the same message.
It was Grayson who read the fateful message out loud: “Nine one one.”
